Jason Chiu is the CEO of The Cherrypicks Group, a regional leader in mobile marketing and smartphone applications and a global leader in mobile Augmented Reality and new media technologies. Cherrypicks focuses on creative and high quality branded mobile applications (iPhone, Android and other smartphone platforms), augmented reality solutions, and cloud-based mobile advertising platforms. It has pioneered mobile marketing platforms in the O2O (online-to-offline) space including iButterfly and TownCheck. Its blue-chip client base include HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Prudential, AIA, Unilever, LVMH, Moet Hennessy, Cathay Pacific, Sulwhasoo, Mass Transit Railway, TVB, China Light & Power, Nokia, Microsoft, Mercedes Benz, HK Jockey Club, HK Tourism Board, HK Trade Development, HK Arts Festival, etc.

Prior to founding Cherrypicks in 2000, Mr. Chiu was a Director for Global High Technology and Telecommunications Practice at Deloitte Consulting in Toronto and Hong Kong. Jason holds a First Class Honor B.A.Sc. Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering with Management Science Option in the University of Waterloo, Canada.

Sammy Kam joined Octopus in 1995 and has since been involved in the development, implementation and operation of the Octopus system in Hong Kong.

Mr. Kam is the Technical Director at Octopus, managing a team of IT professionals with diversified skills and extensive experience in contactless smart card applications, central clearing house system design and large-scale international projects. He has over 20 years of experience in software development and system integration projects.

Mr. Kam holds a Master of Science degree in Information Systems Management and an MBA degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is a Chartered IT Professional, Chartered Engineer and also a professional member of the British Computer Society. Before joining Octopus, he has worked in the software engineering departments of leading computer vendors, including Digital Equipment Corporation and Unisys China Limited.

Launched in 1997, Hong Kong’s Octopus is one of the world’s leading and most extensive smartcard payment systems, with over 65,000 readers being used by more than 5,400 service providers across different businesses including transport, parking, retail, vending and kiosks, schools, leisure facilities and access control for residential and commercial buildings. Merchants and Octopus holders embrace Octopus for both its simplicity and its convenience. Today, over 23 million Octopus cards and products are in circulation, and the system handles over 12 million transactions a day, with transaction value exceeding HK$130 million.

In recent years, Octopus has started to export its unique experience and technology overseas, offering consultancy services for parties from different parts of the world including the Netherlands, Dubai and New Zealand.

Sopheap Lao 劉鴻基, Chief Executive Officer

Currently Advisor to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) as a Mobile Payment Industry Expert. Formerly Chief Executive Officer at Heuristis Business Consulting.

“Mobile” has always been part of Mobexo’s culture and DNA. Its Founder and Chief Executive Officer Sopheap Lao 劉鴻基, learned at a young age, what mobility is and how to adapt to very different environments. He was born in Phnom Penh (Cambodia), grew up in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and moved to Paris (France) during the South-East Asian wars. His passion for new technologies began when he was 11 when he started hacking 8-bit computers in the mid-80's. He studied in France, England and Germany and received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Corporate Finance from the prestigious Paris-Dauphine University. Sopheap speaks English, French, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, Teo Chiu), Cambodian, Vietnamese and German.

After 2 years as a Senior Corporate Accounting and Finance Consultant to Atos-Origin, Sopheap founded Heuristis Business Consulting in 2000. After 16 years, Sopheap gained a solid reputation among the SAP consultancy community for his ability to lead complex and large projects for major international corporations across Europe, UK and US. Meanwhile, Sopheap, who became an open source evangelist when he discovered the open source initiative with Linux in the early 90's, ventured and even funded many open source projects such as BusinessBay, a “Business Process Modeler” enterprise-class but inexpensive alternative to the major “Enterprise Resource Planning” software companies such as SAP or Oracle.

Sopheap started to work on Mobexo in 2009 in France when he was in the need for a new business challenge. After he designing and implementing Mobexo's mobile security foundations through several iterations of the prototype, he finally incorporated the company in 2011 in Hong Kong, the “City of Life”, a place that had always fascinated him and the main financial hub in Asia Pacific he had always felt he had to come back to. To upscale Mobexo's development, he acquired Synova, an I.T. startup in Vietnam to accelerate the development of Mobexo’s app and web portal. Mobexo's payment services were launched as a pilot in October 2011 and Mobexo became the first payment company to use QR Codes as a payment enabler. In February 2012, the very first public release of the Mobexo app was available on Apple's AppStore.

Christopher Short has over 20 years of software development and technology experience across the globe with various positions in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bahrain, and the United States. Prior to MPayMe, Christopher has been providing solutions to a number of large institutions around the world including Thomson Reuters, Credit Suisse, Cathay Pacific Airlines, and others. At Microsoft, Christopher rose to the level of Director, where his teams provided technology solutions to Microsoft's partners in the GCR region of Asia. As Technical Director for Thomson Reuters he led a team that delivered Social Media and Mobile solutions for the Financial Services market and more recently he led a team delivering a new architecture and online global presence for Cathay Pacific Airlines.

Billy has always created new services. Billy modestly describes himself as one of the pioneers of the internet industry in Hong Kong. He was the driving force behind the conception and development of Cable & Wireless HKT’s Internet service solutions. In 1995, Billy pioneered the Netplus regional Internet backbone for telecommunication carriers in Asia Pacific. While at PCCW, Billy developed the Netvigator Internet service. In 2004, Billy branched out to start Y5Zone in Hong Kong. In nine years, Y5Zone became the largest wholesale Wi-Fi supplier in Hong Kong and was acquired by HKBN in January 2013, with Billy becoming a Co-owner of HKBN as part of the consideration. To most people in the know, Billy is the godfather of Wi-Fi in Hong Kong. Billy holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Birmingham, U.K. Billy does not like to sit still. If he did not have to work, he would be sampling the finest wine and golf courses in different countries, while wishing the Wi-Fi connectivity overseas could match that of Hong Kong. Billy is 1 of 79 proud Co-owners of HKBN.
